Actresses Trisha and Shriya Saran are losing out their offers; for they are charging Rs.1 Crore as their remuneration. According to the sources, Tamil film industry’s producers had fixed Rs.60 Lakhs as their remuneration. But, the Telugu film producers have been so generous in hiking their payment to Rs. 1Crore and plus.Instantly, Trisha has got no projects in Tamil except Gowtham Menon’s ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya’. She was supposed to be paired opposite Naga Chaitanya in Telugu remake as well. But as she demanded for a big sum, Gowtham had no options other than replacing her with new hottie Samantha.Similarly, Shriya Charan seems to be running out of offers due to her salary. The unsuccessful actress hasn’t delivered a hit post-Sivaji. Apart from ‘Jaggubhai’, the actress has got ‘Chikku Bhukku’ with Aarya and Dhanush starrer ‘Kutty’.The new entries: Anushka, Thamannah, and Samantha have likely topped the charts overshadowing these actresses now.

To be paired-opposite Salman Khan, especially female-actors who are not very old in B-Town is like a dream come true. However, Shreya Saran is one actor who values money more than the dream. If sources are to be believed, Shreya was the first choice of Boney Kapoor for the role in his forthcoming venture Wanted, which later went to Ayesha Takia Azmi.

According to reliable sources, “Shreya was supposed to do the role but things did not work out over the monetary front as Shreya’s mother and manager had demanded for more than what Shreya was being offered.” The source further adds, “So, later Ayesha Takia Azmi was roped in opposite Salman in the film.”

Wanted marks the directorial debut venture of actor-choreographer Prabhu Deva.

While the Tamil film industry has been roping in actresses from the Malabar Coast, looks like the girls from Mumbai are keen on Mollywood films. Recently, there were reports that Shriya Saran and Vidya Balan are keen on working in a Malayalam film.

And now, Sameera Reddy has been signed up to play opposite Mohanlal in Casanova. The film, which has been shelved for long, will begin early next year in Dubai, reveals sources close to the unit. Also, there are two more heroines along with Sameera – Laksmi Rai and Roma. Roshan Andrews will be wielding the megaphone for Casanova.

Shriya Saran on Mouna Vrath!

Shriya Saran is on a sort of Mouna Vrath (Oath of silence) for the last few days.

She is doing Vipassana Meditation at a center near Mumbai. The technique is taught at 10-day residential courses.

Vipassana, which means to see things as they really are, is one of India’s most ancient techniques of meditation.

As per the brochure – Vipassana is a way of self-transformation through self-observation. It focuses on the deep interconnection between mind and body, which can be experienced directly by disciplined attention to the physical sensations that form the life of the body.

It is this observation-based, self-exploratory journey to the common root of mind and body that dissolves mental impurity, resulting in a balanced mind full of love and compassion.

Shriya is attending the residential courses during which participants learn the basics of the method, and practice sufficiently to experience its beneficial results.

There are no charges for the courses – not even to cover the cost of food and accommodation. All expenses are met by donations from people who, having completed a course and experienced the benefits of Vipassana, wish to give others the opportunity to also benefit.

Shriya Saran has a mixed bag. Her recent English film ‘Cooking with Stella’ received good reviews and was screened at the Toronto Film Festival. She was last seen in Susi Ganesan’s Kanthaswamy with Vikram where her skin show was more talked about than the film. Currently she is doing Mithran Jawahar’s Kutty with Dhanush and K S Ravikumar’s Jaggubhai will be ready for release soon.

Meanwhile the industry is abuzz with the latest news that she will very soon be diversifying and spreading her wings into Mollywood too. She is said to have signed on the dotted line for a Malayalam film titled Pokkiri Raja opposite mega star Mammootty to be directed by newcomer Vysakh. Shriya denies film with Srikanth

Denying reports that she would soon join hands with Srikanth for a film, Shriya Saran has said no such plans are in the pipeline.

“I have not signed any new films in Tamil. Three of my films which are set to release soon are ‘Jaggubhai’, ‘Kutty’ and ‘Chikku Bhukku’, “says the actress, clearing the air.

Interestingly, this New Year will see Shriya Saran shining in Mollywood. She has signed a film with Mammootty and Prithviraj. Titled ‘Pokkiri Raja’, the movie directed by Vysakh is an action-packed masala entertainer.

On accepting a Malayalam offer, she says, “My role in the film is so important. In other words, the script revolves around me. Moreover Mammootty is acting in it. So I had no hesitation in accepting the offer.”

Shriya Saran after doing films with top heroes like Rajnikanth, Vijay, Vikram,Jayam Ravi and Dhanush has now reportedly signed a film opposite Malayalam superstar Mammootty written and directed by debutant Vysakh.

The buzz is that Shriya liked the script and they needed only 30 days call sheet from her. This film titled Pokkiri Raja is a mass masala action entertainer where Mammootty and Pritviraj play brothers.

When contacted, Shriya confirmed the news and said that she will start the shoot from January 2010. She also added that reports about her doing a film opposite Srikanth in Tamil is baseless and talks are on with Super Good films for a film with Jeeva in the lead.

Actor Shriya Saran looks forward to the India release of Cooking with Stella

After creating a stir at the Toronto Film Festival in Canada, Cooking with Stella is set for its India release early next year. Actor Shriya Saran, who plays a major role in this Canadian project, cannot hide her excitement. This is Saran’s second international project after The Other End of the Line where she starred opposite Jesse Metcalfe, the heartthrob gardener from Desperate Housewives.

Saran plays a nanny in Cooking with Stella — written by Deepa Mehta and directed by her brother Dilip Mehta — and, true to her part, she loves babysitting. Her character is called Tannu, a nanny to the two-year-old child of a Canadian diplomat and her husband, played by Lisa Ray and Don McKellar. The film, which is based in New Delhi, is a humorous take on how the foreign couple learns to deal with the concept of domestic help in this country.

You have crossed 40. But you’re still playing a college student.

When this film was offered to me, I had told Raju (Rajkumar Hirani) and Vinod (Vidhu Vinod Chopra, producer) that they were taking a dangerous decision; that I won’t be able to play a college student. But Raju told me that the character Rancho was like me. We argued a lot on this. But I had liked the story. Plus, Raju and I wanted to work with each other.

Two days before the shoot started in Bangalore, I even called Raju and Vinod and told them that they could change their decision. But they didn’t want to.

Raju told me that when I did Sarfarosh, nobody thought I could pull off the role of an ACP (Assistant Commissioner of Police), or that I could play a tapori in Rangeela. Nobody thought I could play a villager in Lagaan or have a physique like that in Ghajini. So he said that I had taken up these challenges in the past, and should take up another challenge. Plus, I had already worked on my body to look younger and leaner.

It’s a challenge for an actor to do different kinds of characters like playing an 80 year old man or a woman. So I have taken up the challenge now and will wait for the audience reaction.
